DRAWING PROJECT

You need to choose from the two lists below and complete 20 drawings by May 25th.

Each drawing will be marked out of 10 and will go towards your end of year summer exam. You need to practice plenty as you will have to do an exam in drawing for your Junior Certificate Art exam.

When you have completed a drawing, tick it off in the box provided and I will put your grade into the box for marks. Make sure to label your drawing with which item it is from the list.

  • You need to try out different media like pencil, colouring pencil, chalk, pastel, mixed media etc.
  • You must fill the page with the drawing or many small drawings of the same object.
  • Make notes on it if you want to tell me about it.

They will be collected at various times over the coming weeks for correction and to make sure that they are being completed.

Failure to complete the drawings will result in a large number of marks lost for your summer exam.

INTRODUCTION TO PRINTING: 

SUBMISSION DATE: March 15th

You will become familiar with different printing techniques, understand the difference between drawings and designs, understand balance between positive and negative shapes and plan and execute a relief print.

OBJECTIVES: What will you learn:

  1. You will become familiar with printing terminology, materials and tools needed and the safety that is required when using them.
  2. You will learn the difference between mono printing, relief printing and other forms of printing and how to execute the steps in making them.
  3. You will learn that relief prints reverse the image from the block to the print. (Students must take care in reversing any letters or words as they plan their block.)
  4. You will learn how to turn a drawing into an effective print keeping, tone and texture in mind.udents learn how to define shapes within a print.
  5. You will learn how to use negative, as well as positive shapes, effectively in their prints.
  6. You will learn how to formulate and share responses to classmates’ artwork.

TASKS:

  1. You will first experiment with mono printing and printing existing lino that was created by previous students.
  2. You will create a relief print using foam board to understand the term WOBI: White Out, Black In.
  3. You will create your own design using a motif of choice, considering positive and negative spaces, tone and texture. This will all go on your prep sheet.
  4. You will use the tools in a safe manner to cut the white out and leave the black in.
  5. You will print the design using the materials provided.
  6. You will mount them ready for marking on Thursday March 15th.
